The 9 materials of basic cosmetics
By basic cosmetics we mean products we use every day like toners, essence lotions, creams etc. The main purpose of basic cosmetics is preserve the cleanliness of our skin. The moisturization of the horny layer of our skin is the basic of the basics when taking care of our skin.
Originally, our skin contains sebum and moisture to protect itself from external threats, however there are also many reasons for the destruction of our skin. Basic cosmetics exist to prevent this from happening. Today we are going to find out about the 9 most basic materials in manufacturing basic cosmetics
1. Water
It is also expressed as ‘purified water’, and is a substance that makes up to 70% of a product. Purified water is water that has been purified in several ways. Normal water contains a lot of bacteria and other substances which can cause products to go bad so purified water is a must when manufacturing cosmetics.
2. Oily materials.
It prevents the moisture in the skin from evaporating and increases the absorbing ability. The most common materials are oil, wax, hydrocarbon, fat, ester, silicon etc.
3. Surfactant
It also prevents the moisture in skin from evaporating and increases the absorbing ability. It sticks to the surface of other materials and changes its main characteristics. It can be used as an emulsifier to help water and oil mix, a solubilizer that helps melt a bit of oil into water and also a dispersant that helps solid particles spread evenly.
4. Humectant
Helps relieve dry skin and skin that produce dead skin cells quickly. It also keep your skin smooth and increases the absorptiveness.
5. Increments
It maintains the viscosity and increases the feeling when used. It is mainly used when manufacturing gel type products and also can be used in humectants or surfactants.
6. Pigment colouring
It is mostly used in cosmetics containing colour, since it is a substance used when addition of colour is needed but it also can be used in basic cosmetics. However it is currently causing controversy because of it’s possibility of creating cancer and contagious skin troubles. The common materials in it are tar pigment colouring, pigment colouring etc. It is mostly used in lipsticks, mascaras, eyeliners and other types of products.
7. Preservatives
This is a substance that prevents the product from getting spoiled. However there are a lot of Preservative substances that are currently disputed so the use of natural-made preservatives are increasing.
8. Perfume
This is mainly used to hide the original scent or producing a better scent.
9. Effective raw materials
These are materials that help improve wrinkles and particular functions like skin-lightening. Materials that help skin-lightening are vitamin C, kojic acids, arbutin etc. and materails that help improve or fix wrinkles are retinol, collagen etc. However, just because a lot of these substances are contained, doesn’t mean that the effects are maximized.
